Glass Options
It’s glass that connects you with the world around and it can offer some hi-tech solutions for condensation reduction, warmth, fading, noise protection, privacy, security and safety.
Double Glazing
In summer, double glazing reduces heat and UV entry, whilst in winter it provides good light levels and reduces outward heat loss. Other benefits are the improved condensation levels, as well as the security and sound-dampening qualities that come with two sheets of glass. The logic for heating and double glazing in Winter is equally valid for cooling (air conditioners) and double glazing in Summer.
Noise-Reduction Glass
Unwanted noise can spoil the comfort of your home. If you’d like to reduce traffic, party, or voice noise, then laminated glass could be a good solution. We have supplied double glazed units (dgu’s) comprised of laminated glass on both sides of the dgu. The location was next to a very busy road and the result was ‘near-total-silence’
Safety Glass
Our manufacturers have products to ensure your safety and compliance with applicable building codes. Options include both toughened and laminated glass. Our quoting software systems are based on NZ safety standards so you can be assured that the windows we produce are ‘safe’ windows. If you are unsure whether or not glass should be safety glass, please ask us or see the technical information referenced at the bottom of this page.
Fading and Privacy Glass
Tinted and reflective glass reduces glare and ultraviolet light. You have tones of green, blue, grey and bronze to choose from and the colour assist with increasing internal privacy. Tinted glass reduces the passage of ultraviolet rays, saving soft furnishings from premature fading.
Tinted Glass
In recent years we have seen an increase in the use of tinted glass. On plans it is often specified as “Tint to All” or “Tint to North Elevations only”. By only tinting to the North elevations and retaining clear glass in the south sides of the house, maximum light penetration is provided to bathrooms, laundry etc.
Please be aware that tints vary depending on the thickness of the glass – i.e. 4 mm grey tint is a slightly lighter shade than 5 mm grey tint. At AliWays it is our normal quoting practice to provide a consistent thickness of glass throughout a room and throughout an elevation or view. For example, while one window in a room may only be required to have 4 mm tinted glass in it (due to its size) we may quote it as 5 mm tinted glass if an adjacent and larger window consists of (and is required to be) 5 mm tinted glass. It costs a little more but the alternative is a hotch-potch of tinted windows.
